A man who was leading a prayer group on a Harlem sidewalk had his backpack stolen—and inside was a religious artifact. Now the police are hoping the public can help them locate the object as well as the grand larceny suspect.

Teddy Thongratnachat, 27, was outside Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (448 East 116th Street) just after 1 p.m. on October 13th, when he put the bag on the ground. Police say that when he turned around for his bag, it was gone.

Authorities released video of the male suspect:

Inside the bag was a $175 brass reliquary that contained a special stone. According to the Daily News, "[There was] a stone from the Shrine of St. Michael the Archangel in Gargano, Italy. The devout believed St. Michael appeared in a cave in Gargano four times in the late 5th Century. Thongratnachat said he borrowed the relic from friends, to place in the church during Michaelmas last month."

Apparently Thongratnachat was leading Rosary outside the church so more people could participate.

Anyone with information in regard to the identity of the male is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
