A Long Island City woman pleaded guilty to shooting and killing her sister the night of her sister's 27th birthday party. Melanie Webb, 25, admitted to fatally shooting her sister Tara Webb, as well as non-fatally shooting her sister's boyfriend Terrell Carmichael on March 26 in the Long Island City apartment they all shared. No motive was given for the shooting.

The sisters had lived in the same Queensbridge Houses building together for the last ten years; more recently, Carmichael plus Tara Webb and Carmichael's four-year-old son had joined them there. Police initially suspected that Carmichael might have tried a murder-suicide, but that was ruled out quickly. Webb pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in exchange for a sentence of 25 years behind bars and five years parole

Back in the spring, Deshawn Casey, a friend of the sisters, shed some light on the tragic circumstances around the shooting, saying that the whole thing was an accident, and Tara was never the intended target: "She wanted [Carmichael] out of the house and he started laughing at her, so she went and handled her business and Tara got caught in the crossfire," Casey said.
