Proving that crossing the street is equally as hazardous to your health as sitting down, a 61-year-old woman was struck by a minivan whose driver was fleeing police as she made her way across Kissena Boulevard in Queens yesterday.

According to the Daily News, police saw the driver rummaging through a pocketbook in the Fresh Meadows mall parking lot and when they approached him he sped off, leading them on a two-mile chase that ended when he struck the woman at Kissena & 59th Ave.

After the suspect's van hit the woman, he lost control, careening into a telephone pole where police arrested him. The woman is in stable condition with a fractured wrist and a broken hip, and is probably wondering what the hell she did to deserve this.
