A 19-year-old Queens man has been arrested after allegedly engaging in a shootout with NYPD officers, according to authorities.
The NYPD says a sergeant and two officers were performing a plainclothes enforcement operation in Far Rockaway at around 12:30 a.m. yesterday when they allegedly observed William Bazemore, 19, with a "large unusual bulge" in his sweatshirt pocket. The officers were in a vehicle and stopped it at Nameoke Street and Beach Channel Drive; there, they say they approached Bazemore, who allegedly fired at them before fleeing.
Authorities say the officers returned fire and chased Bazemore, nabbing him a block away and arresting him. No one was injured by gunfire, and the suspect was treated for minor facial injuries at Jamaica Hospital, according to the NYPD. He has been charged with attempted murder in the first degree, attempted assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment; authorities recovered his alleged weapon at the scene.
