President Obama has been granted ExtraMoogaVVVVVIP status: Prospect Park will be closed from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday so his helicopters can land on the grass. Sources tell us that a certain wealthy helicopter pilot is flush with envy.

A Parks Department employee confirmed that yes, the whole freaking park will be closed, and referred us to a statement from the Prospect Park Alliance. A.O. Scott has yet to comment.

Park Slope Stoop posted photographs shot by Tom Prendergast showing the presidential helicopter detail practicing landing in the park yesterday afternoon.

The president is in town for fundraising visits as well as a stop at Pathways in Technology High School in Crown Heights. P-Tech was name-checked in this year's State of the Union address as a high school that "puts our kids on a path to a good job" by implementing a curriculum that graduates its students with an associates degree in computer engineering or other high tech fields, in addition to a traditional diploma.

"P-Tech is a 21st century school that prepares its students for 21st century jobs," Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said in a statement. "I am excited to have President Obama visit this outstanding school and see the innovation, dedicated teaching, and quality learning that goes on across the New York City school system.”
