It's officially that time of year: the subway platforms have morphed into slowly bubbling pots of human stew, and the cars themselves are blasted cold enough that, if you're anything like me, you need to tote around a special Subway Sweatshirt—all of which will make additional platform wait times and unexpected express trains gone local just that much more fun as you attempt to go about your weekends. 11 trains have changes this weekend, and things are looking particularly gnarly on the 5 and A lines.
Here's what to expect:
1 trains are not running in either direction between 14 St and South Ferry, between 11:30 p.m. on Friday and 5 a.m. on Monday. Free shuttle buses will run between Chambers St and South Ferry.
2 trains will run local in both directions between Chambers St and 34 St-Penn Station from 11:30 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Also, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College-bound 2 trains will skip Jackson Av from 4:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday.
3 trains will run local in both directions between Chambers St and 34 St-Penn Station from 6:30 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.
4 trains will run local in both directions between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday.
5 trains are not running in either direction between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Trains will operate every 20 minutes between E 180 St/149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green during the days and evenings only. Free shuttle buses will run between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, making all station stops. Also, from 7:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, 5 trains are not running in either direction between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse. From 6:00 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday, 5 trains will run every 20 minutes, and will run local in both directions between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.
6 trains will run every 16 minutes between Pelham Bay Park and 3 Av-138 St from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Also, from 3:45 a.m. on Saturday to 10 p.m. on Sunday, Pelham Bay Park-bound 6 trains will run express from Parkchester to Pelham Bay Park.
A trains are not running in either direction between 168 St and Inwood-207 St from 11:30 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Shuttle buses will run instead. Also, from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday, trains will be rerouted via the F between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Jay St-MetroTech in both directions. Downtown A trains will run express from 145 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, and from 11:45 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday. And from 11:30 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday, trains will run local in both directions between 168 St and 145 St. Lastly, from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday, A trains will run local in both directions between W 4 St-Wash Sq and 59 St-Columbus Circle.
C trains are not running in either direction between 145 St and 168 St from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Also during that time, downtown C trains will run express from 145 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle, and trains will be rerouted on the F line in both directions between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.
E trains will run local in both directions between Queens Plaza and Forest Hills-71 Av from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday.
F trains will run local in both directions between 21 St-Queensbridge and Forest Hills-71 Av from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday to 5 a.m. on Monday. From 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday, Coney Island-Stillwell Av-bound F trains will run express from Jay St-MetroTech to Church Av.
G trains are not running in either direction between Church Av and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, from 11:45 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. They'll operate in two sections, between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs and between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, every 20 minutes.
