A pregnant mother of three was fatally shot just steps from her apartment door in Queens this morning. According to the NYPD, Anastasia Maffey, 27, was shot in the chest and arm in a hallway inside the LeFrak City complex in Corona. She was pronounced DOA at Elmhurst General Hospital, but it's unclear if doctors were able to save her baby.
Maffey, who was 25 weeks pregnant, was reportedly returning home after dropping her kids off at school. According to the NY Post's police sources, "her husband — who heard the shots and banging on the door — opened the door and discovered her hit in the chest and arm."
Maffey's husband is not considered a suspect at this time. One NYPD source tells DNAinfo the shooting does not appear to be random, and "the NYPD believes the victim was a witness in a civil or criminal case, and are investigating that as a possible motive for her murder."
A source tells DNAinfo that doctors delivered the baby, but the infant later died. The Post is still reporting that the baby survived and is in stable condition. An NYPD spokesman told us the press office could not comment on the child's status. We'll update as more information becomes available.
