The NYPD has launched an investigation into the case of a teenager who got duped into handing over his expensive watch under the guise of a selfie emergency.

According to police, the timepiece heist occurred in the vicinity of West 12th Street and 7th Avenue at around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning. The 16-year-old victim was wearing his Rolex, police said, when he was approached by a woman who asked if she could take a photo of herself wearing the watch.

Exhibiting the trusting, egalitarian values known to Generation Z, the victim complied with the request. "When he requested the watch back, the individual fled the location to parts unknown," police said.

Cops are currently searching for the suspect, and anyone with information is encouraged to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. Additionally, anyone who knows a credulous teenager with expensive possessions is encouraged to send them our scam guide.
