Ringing up $20,000 in phone sex bills over five years is impressive, but doing so on the government dime takes balls. Sure, back before Skype and cellphones made a lot of long-distance concerns moot it was not unheard of for folks to wait to get into the office to check in on Grams down in Florida, but the trick that 52-year-old New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Edward Reilly is charged with pulling is just ridiculous. Albany must be really boring!

Starting in March 2005 Reilly is accused of making more than 760 phone calls, totaling over 500 hours, to sex lines including Quest Chat, Secret Encounters, VIP Club Sensual Chat, Metrovibe and Local Chat. And it isn't like he didn't know what he was doing was wrong, the News reports he used at least four conference rooms "in hopes the calls couldn't be traced back to him." Or, in the words of the complaint,"He knew that the use of the phones was inappropriate; state phones are supposed to be used for official New York State business."

Reilly was arrested Friday and now faces charges of felony grand larceny as well as six felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing (because he was putting in time sheets for working while he was on the phone talking dirty). He was released with out bail pending while the case moves forward. The real question is, how long did he wait after being released before calling up for another phone sex fix?
