A driver who had been stopped for a "tinted window" violation took NYPD officers on a chase from the Upper East Side to the East Village, where police fired shots at the driver. One officer was injured when he was hit by the vehicle.

Just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, officers stopped the vehicle in the East 90s near 1st Avenue. However, the driver fled, apparently ramming the patrol car as well.

Officers caught up with the car near 15th Street and FDR Drive. The driver reportedly hit an officer with a side rearview mirror while trying to flee again. Video shows officers firing at the car while it reverses:

No one appears to have been injured by the gunfire. The officer hit by the car was treated and released, an NYPD spokesperson said on Friday morning.

The vehicle, a black BMW with bulletholes, was found abandoned on the FDR near Houston Street.

The investigation is still ongoing.
