Police are looking for a man who they say punched a cop in the face when the officer tried to arrest him.

The NYPD says that an officer stopped Brian Ackwood, 25, on Friday night at about 9:55 p.m. in front of a bodega on Bushwick Avenue because he was wanted for a past larceny. When the cop went in to make the collar, Ackwood allegedly punched the cop, breaking open the area around his or her left eye, and ran off towards the Bushwick Houses across the street, where Ackwood lives. A police department spokesman said he did not have details of the larceny.

The spokesman said that Ackwood has been arrested at least 15 times in the past. Prison and court records show he does not have any open court cases and has not served any state prison terms in New York.

Police describe Ackwood as standing 6-foot and weighing 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap, black sneakers, and a dark blue shirt.

The NYPD asks that anyone with information about the incident call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at (800) 577-8477, or for Spanish, (888) 577-4782. People can also submit tips online here or text them to 274637 and enter "TIP577".
