Police are looking for a man who followed a woman into her East Village apartment and attempted to rape her.

According to an NYPD release, the victim was walking home to her apartment in the vicinity of Second Avenue at around 11:50 p.m. on Monday night. The suspect then followed her in, and once he was inside, lifted her dress and attempted to sexually assault her. When she began to scream, the suspect fled.

The suspect is described as male, white, between 20-25 years old, around 6'1" and weighing 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing khaki pants, a dark zip-up sweater and a baseball cap.

An NYPD spokesman declined to elaborate on the location of the assault in order to protect the victim, saying only that it occurred within the confines of the 9th Precinct.
