A 22-year-old Staten Island woman was showering at home Tuesday when a man broke through her bathroom's locked door and tried to rape her. According to police, 30-year-old Miguel Felipe sexually assaulted the woman, threw her to the floor, and began to choke her before she was able to convince him to let her out of the bathroom, at which point she fled down the hall and out of the apartment.
The assault took place at approximately 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told SI Live the woman ran naked out of her building near Ebbitts Street and Hett Avenue and was shielded by two passers-by as Felipe ran out after her. Felipe then fled the scene and is still being pursued as a suspect, police say. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, treated, and later released.
Felipe is a friend of the victim's family, and had been living with her in the same apartment before he tried to rape her, sources told the Daily News. Police describe him as 5'4", 150lbs and known to some as "Tino" or "Constantino."
