The NYPD is seeking to interview a man who may have been the last to see 26-year-old Lyric McHenry alive on August 14th. McHenry was found dead on a Bronx sidewalk after reportedly leaving a Manhattan nightclub with the mystery man. She had been out with friends for a belated birthday celebration.
McHenry, a producer and one-time reality star who appeared in EJ Johnson's EJNYC show, had shared social media posts while at nightclubs in Manhattan on August 13th into the next day. Around 5 a.m., a passer-by called 911 about an unconscious woman found near Undercliff Avenue and Boscobel Place. EMS took to her Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where McHenry was pronounced dead.
There were no obvious signs of trauma, and the medical examiner's office is still working to determine the cause of death. A bag of cocaine was reportedly found near her body.
Video shows a man in the area near where McHenry was found, and the NYPD would like to talk to him about her death. Anyone with information in regards to the unidentified individual is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
The video comes after a report from the Daily Mail about a man McHenry may have been involved with: "[A] friend has revealed she was last seen five hours before her body was discovered with a man whom she had been texting - and who was turned away by doormen when he tried to get in... [A]t the final stop of the night, at Dream Downtown, a luxury hotel in Chelsea, she left with the mystery man. Friends have also told DailyMail.com that McHenry was in a casual relationship with a man from the Bronx at the time of her death - and that they suspect he may have been a drug dealer."
A spokesperson for McHenry's family said, "A friend said she went downstairs to get somebody in, because they weren't letting that person in. Lyric goes to the car and she gets in with whoever it was. That's the last they saw or heard from her that night. The friends didn't get a look at this person. And Lyric just went downstairs, she didn't say who it was."
The spokesperson also confirmed that McHenry was 15-20 weeks pregnant, adding that friends and family were not aware.
A memorial for McHenry was held on Sunday in Los Angeles. The Daily News reports that her father, Doug McHenry, a film and TV director and producer, gave a eulogy. Etienne Maurice said, "He talked about how proud he was to watch his daughter on her journey as a producer of film and TV. I remember him saying it broke his heart to know that her dream has been taken away due to this tragedy."
