Police are searching for a driver who left the scene of an accident, apparently after deliberately striking a pedestrian in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx yesterday.
According to NBC New York, "Three women and a man were walking underneath Bruckner Expressway at East 138th Street in Port Morris at about 1 p.m., when the man exchanged words with a passenger in a passing vehicle, according to police."
The car, which might be a Chevy Impala, then made a U-turn and headed south—and into one of the female pedestrians, a 50-year-old woman, who was crossing Bruckner Boulevard westbound. The victim, Christine Aybar, is in critical condition at Lincoln Hospital.
A man told WCBS 2, "The guy deliberately, deliberately turned the car around and threw the car towards me to hit me, but she jumped out of my way and she took the full impact." And a witness said, "When she pushed him out the way, she tried to run the other way, but the car caught her and the front and back tires ran over her."
The police say that the car is a white sedan with a dark-colored front passenger quarter panel and bumper. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
