Given yesterday's bombings of U.S. hotels in Jordan, New York City's hotels are getting a lot more police protection. A source told the AP, "The concern is hotels and restaurants because they are soft targets [places where people have easy access]. We are trying to harden them up." Hotel guests range from those confident in what the NYPD has done to protest the city to those with fear in their eyes (which is one hotel doorman claims he saw!). Anyway, all we can say to people visiting the city is that you're lucky to get the AK-47 welcoming committee. If you're lucky, you'll get your bags checked in the subways (yes, the MTA police is also stepping up security at Penn Station and Grand Central)! But don't worry, you'll get the pseudo-reduced fare Metrocards in a few weeks, as long as you only ride on the weekend - happy holidays!
