Police have ruled the death of a woman who was found in her bathtub in Queens yesterday with burns all over her body as a homicide. They are now trying to track down Carlos Leon, also known as Carlos Alvarado, the missing boyfriend of 28-year-old victim Miriam Velez-Samayoa.

But the News reports Leon may have skipped town: he and Velez-Samayoa had tickets for a 3 a.m. flight to Guatemala, reportedly to take care of her sick mother. "They had a flight scheduled and everything," said neighbor Josue Tohom. “They would have arguments every now and then but nothing really serious." Other neighbors told ABC that they had heard arguing and screams coming from the apartment in the past.

Cops found Velez-Samayoa's body after responding to a 911 call of a possible assault in progress at a third-floor apartment on 90th Avenue near 148th Street in Jamaica around 4 a.m. Saturday. Her body was engulfed in flames, and investigators believe her body was doused in some sort of accelerant.

"[It looks like someone] took the shower curtain, drenched it in gasoline and set her on fire,” Rojelio Ramos, a friend of one of the victim’s roommates, told the News. An autopsy has been scheduled for Sunday to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
