The NYPD is investigating a reported rape that occurred early today in Central Park.
According to the police, a 22-year-old woman said that an acquaintance raped her inside the park around 3 a.m. She went to St. Luke's Hospital on her own.
The Post reports that the woman and her alleged assailant were in the park at "about 2:15 a.m. by West 72nd Street at Strawberry Fields, according to sources. They continued walking to the SummerStage area at East 72nd Street and East Drive, where he started groping her."
The Daily News reports that the alleged rape took place "near the Central Park Boathouse," around East 74th Street: "When the rape was over, the suspect, described as a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s, escorted the woman out of the park but doubled back to get a cellphone he left behind, officials said. The woman bolted, flagged down a cab."
The Manhattan Special Victims Unit is working on the case.
