Police say a 53-year-old woman was killed by a drunk driver as she was walking on the sidewalk in Sheepshead Bay early Saturday morning. According to an NYPD release, 53-year-old Karin Eberts-Ayub was killed by a 2012 Ford Fusion driven by 25-year-old Steven Calandrillo at around 2:00 a.m. as she was walking west near the intersection of Shore Parkway and Bragg Street. Calandrillo hit a tree after hitting Eberts-Ayub and was found unconscious in his vehicle. Eberts-Ayub was pronounced dead at the scene.

Calandrillo, who lives about two miles west of the crash site, is charged with second degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, DWI, and speeding, among other charges. Eberts-Ayub, who lived in Gravesend, was a cook at Madison Square Garden who also enjoyed painting. "She'd feed you to death. She loved to make lasagna," a roommate told the Daily News.
