Less than 24 hours after releasing surveillance footage showing a suspected rapist lurking around a hotel hallway, the NYPD says they caught the guy. Bronx resident Ivan Jones, 27, was arrested late last night and charged with rape, robbery, strangulation and assault. The unidentified 33-year-old victim tells investigators that she engaged in a short conversation with Jones on the subway at Union Square early Wednesday morning, asking him directions to her hotel in the Bronx.

The victim says Jones accompanied her to her hotel, but she proceeded to her room alone at 3:30 a.m. Around 4 a.m., the victim heard a knock on her door, and when she opened, Jones allegedly pushed his way into her room and raped her. According to the Post, Jones allegedly "choked her, disrobed her and raped her while warning, 'Shut up! Don’t say anything!' Then he bound her, grabbed $50, a cellphone and a pair of earrings and fled."

She told police her assailant had a tattoo of the name "Tiffany" on the inside of the left forearm and a tattoo of a scorpion and the name "Ivan" on his right shoulder/biceps (which presumably made it a little easier for the NYPD to find the suspect). NBC New York reports that the rape occurred at a Howard Johnson Express Inn, and two women staying in the room next door said she seemed very shaken up and had a black eye. (NBC notes that they checked out a day early.)
