Photos, Video: Scenes From Alphabet City After Sandy's Spanking

Yesterday, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, photographers and citizen journalists started to spread out around the city to document the devastation. So what was it like yesterday in Alphabet City, where the Con Ed substation that took out Manhattan is located? Dan Lurie filed these photos from the area with us last night. Pretty wet and flooded, but hey, at least one pizza joint was open down on Houston!

Oh, you were curious about what it is like after dark? Well, perhaps this creepy video shot last night at just 7:45 p.m. will give you a sense? The camera is standing on the corner of Avenue A and 7th Street, just across from Tompkins Square Park, and the only lights you can see are from passing cars and buses. Yeah, scary:
