The FDNY battled a two-alarm fire at a building in Williamsburg this morning, right near Smorgasburg.
According to officials, the fire broke out at around 11:12 a.m. on the roof of 135 Kent Ave near North 6th Street. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control by around 11:50 a.m., and no injuries were reported.
Tipster Megan Langston tells us:
We were in our apartment and saw a giant plume of black smoke go by our window and looked outside to see flames shooting from the roof of the building on the block across from us. The firefighters arrived within minutes. They showed no fear as they emerged from the flaming staircase and from ladders around the building. They had the fire mostly out in about ten minutes.
The residential building, which also houses bar Sweetleaf, is located right by Smorgasburg at East River State Park, and a number of onlookers at the food festival and on the street nearby snapped photos of the billowing flames:
