Nature is all around us, if you're willing to lower your expectations about what qualifies as "nature." A rat fighting a condom wrapper? Breathtaking. A pigeon nibbling a smashed raccoon corpse? Truly magnificent. A hardy weed tendril pushing forth through a sidewalk smeared in shattered glass and dried human blood? Wow...just wow.

But there's more in our fair city, much more, if only we'd take a minute to stop Instagramming that raccoon massacre and look around. David Velesaca sent over the above photos, snapped in the last few weeks around Bay Ridge. Over the course of just a few days, he managed to spy a majestic-ish shark, a proud duck family and a giant rabbit. Isn't the Earth beautiful?! Oops, watch where you're walking though; you almost crushed that colony of maggots living on an old diaper.
