Can you feel it in your nostrils? Those bitterly cold winter winds are here, as you can tell from freezing your face off when you made a halfhearted attempt to go to the gym earlier. Just look at the photos and video—taken this afternoon—of the giant ice floes that have begun to dominate the East River. At perilous moments like this, one must shake their fist at the heavens and channel Mr Freeze: "You're not sending ME to the COOLER!"

Back in our day, we had to walk 20 miles over frozen ice bridges to get to Brooklyn, so you should count your lucky stars that George Washington killed his sensei in a duel and he never said why (and also that his birthday is tomorrow so you maybe don't have to go outside for the next 24 hours or so).

You know it's cold when the #EastRiver freezes. #NYC
