A pedestrian was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by an Access-A-Ride van driver in Murray Hill this morning.
According to the FDNY, the crash happened around 8:45 a.m. on East 34th Street between Lexington and 3rd avenues. The pedestrian was transported to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition, and van's driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Access-A-Ride van drivers have a reputation for being crash-prone, though Adam Alperowicz, who snapped the above photo, tells us this particular incident was truly special:
"They crashed into traffic on the OPPOSITE side of the street, ie... the driver somehow got from the Eastbound lane, all the way across the two westbound lanes, and up onto the curb and into the building on the north side of the street!"
The crash has snarled traffic on 34th Street, which remained closed as of 10 a.m.
