A 46-year-old woman was killed last night when a private sanitation truck fatally struck her as she crossed a Brooklyn street.
According to the NYPD, officers responded a call at 10:28 p.m. and found Alberta Bagu "unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma about the head and body, lying on Broadway" near Ditmars Street. The NYPD's Highway Unit's Collision Investigation Squad believe that a private sanitation truck "traveling southbound on Broadway between Ditmars Street Willoughby Avenue, did strike the pedestrian as she attempted to cross the street, mid-block, from west to east."
The truck did not remain on the scene and Bagu was declared dead at the scene. WABC 7 reports that Bagu, who has two adult sons, had MS and used a walker.

A neighbor said of the driver, "It’s not right, he should come and turn himself in. I feel very upset. If he hit somebody, he should have stopped."
The police are continuing to investigate.
