A man crossing an East New York street was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver earlier this morning. When police arrived at the scene, the driver was already gone.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. today. According to the NYPD, officers responded to a call about a pedestrian struck by a car and found the 39-year-old victim "unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma about the body." He was taken to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead.

A police investigation so far found that the victim was struck by the driver of an unidentified black sedan. WABC 7 reports, "Police are looking for a woman, possibly driving a Nissan Maxima with front-end damage. It was last seen speeding westbound on Jamaica Avenue." And a video of the aftermath reportedly shows a mailbox being knocked down.
