A 76-year-old woman died yesterday after being struck by a driver. Police say that the driver was apparently backing into a parking spot.
According to the NYPD, the incident occurred at 5:50 p.m. near Madison Avenue and 95th Street. Police officers found Mary Jo Myszelow conscious with head injuries; she later died at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police say that an investigation revealed that "a black 2013 Lincoln sedan was heading north bound on Madison Avenue when the operator noticed a parking spot and attempted to back his vehicle into it. As the operator backed up, his car struck the 76 year-old female as she was attempting to cross Madison Avenue midblock from the east side to the west."
The driver remained on the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
