A 59-year-old man was killed early this morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Brownsville.

The NYPD says that at around 2:20 a.m., the unidentified victim was attempting to cross Rockaway Parkway at Clarkson Avenue and Winthrop Street when the operator of a dark-colored sedan driving northbound on the parkway struck him.

The driver fled the scene, according to police. The victim was transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The victim was allegedly crossing mid-block when he was struck. "I would cross on the side. To cross in the middle is very dangerous over here because these cars come down here very fast," one area resident told CBS 2.

No arrests have been made, and NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
