2006_01_patakibudg.jpgGovernor Pataki's 2006 budget for NY State outlined many ambitious plans, with lowering and eliminating many taxes at the core, but it seems that NYC has been shortchanged again, as city schools were only given $225 million - while there is a court order saying the state should increase city school funding by over $5 billion. And then there are some complicated issues involving reducing Medicaid costs and how NYC hospitals would be affected. Mayor Bloomberg will be in Albany on Monday to testify about the budget's impact on the city, and the various state Assemblypeople from the city will also be looking over the budget to see where the Pataki gouged us.
