At least 44 people were injured after two New Jersey Transit buses headed to Port Authority collided in the Lincoln Tunnel.

The FDNY says 44 people were injured in the crash, which happened just before 9 a.m. this morning. Twenty-eight of those people were transported to area hospitals, while 16 refused further medical attention at the scene. In addition, another two people may have been taken to New Jersey hospitals. All the victims were in stable condition, and most had minor injuries.

According to reports, a bus headed from Ridgefield rear-ended a bus from North Hudson Park in Fairview. Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo told AP that the door on one bus had to be cut open.

The buses were removed by 10:30 a.m., but as of noon, there are still extensive delays around the tunnel.
