A building under construction has partially collapsed in the Bronx, killing one person and injuring five others.

According to the Fire Department, the collapse happened around noon on Tuesday at 94 East 208th Street.

A Department of Buildings spokesperson said that DOB staff are on the scene investigating the collapse. DOB records show that workers were building a new four-story residential building with eight units.

Pioneer General Construction is the listed general contractor, and no one picked up the phone at their Brooklyn office.

A man answering the phone at Linzi Contracting Service, the listed construction superintendent, said he wasn't aware of any building collapse but that he'd look into it.

This past spring, CBS reported that construction deaths have increased by 33 percent compared to five years ago, and injuries have increased by 221 percent. The City has reported that one third of all construction deaths logged in New York City by the federal government are not counted by the city government.
