After rumors that Lynne Patton, an event planner and longtime Trump family associate, was going to be named the administrator of Region II of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which covers New York and New Jersey, it looked like the Trump administration would back off following an outcry. Now, however, Patton has been officially confirmed for the job.

Patton talked with the Times about getting appointed to the position, suggesting that there was only an outcry over her lack of housing experience because she was close to the Trump family. Patton also told the Times that while other people see nepotism leading to her role, New Yorkers and New Jerseyites relying on HUD money should actually be thankful to have "an advocate with unprecedented access to those in charge" in the role.

She also told the paper that she didn't plan Eric Trump's wedding, just helped Lara Trump with the guest list and her dress "like any close friend" would.

"We look forward to working closely with Ms. Patton as we continue to provide and improve housing for 600,000 New Yorkers," NYCHA Chair and CEO Shola Olatoye told Gothamist in a statement. "NYCHA's role in this city is vital in housing the City’s workforce: teachers, police officers, hospital workers, and civil servants. We hope Administrator Patton will continue HUD’s commitment to public housing and Section 8 as we strive to provide safe, clean and connected communities for New York City."
