After 48 days, Occupy Wall Street protesters now have a legitimate place to do their business. Due to a lack of public restrooms, many people at the encampment have relied on local establishments, like the nearby Burger King, for bathroom access. But today they announced that they have secured several porta-potties and placed them in a private, well-lit space with 24-hour security, just two blocks from Zuccotti Park. Fancy!
The facilities will be accessible 24/7 and maintained by a professional service, presumably paid for out of the half-a-million dollars in the Occupy Wall Street general fund. OWS volunteers are currently "blanketing" Liberty Square with fliers directing people to the facilities, so now there's no excuse for anyone to relieve themselves anywhere else. Unless they're trying to make a political statement, of course. [Via City Room]
