Police say a woman walking in Williamsburg last weekend apparently managed to distract an assailant from raping her by offering him money.

According to the NYPD, at around 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, August 1st, a 24-year-old woman was walking near Leonard Street and Bayard Street "when the suspect ran up to her, grabbed her around the neck and began to fondle her genitals. The suspect then stated to the woman that he was going to have sex with her. The victim pleaded with the suspect and offered him money not to harm her. The suspect complied and the two went to an nearby ATM where the victim withdrew $20 and gave it to the suspect who then fled the scene. The victim refused medical attention at the scene."
