The police are searching for a man accused of trying to rape a woman in her building over the weekend in Manhattan.

According to the NYPD, the attempted rape happened at 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 29 when the suspect followed a woman into her building and onto the elevator on West 172 Street in Washington Heights. Investigators say the victim "got off at her floor, with the suspect in tow. As she began to open the door to her apartment, the suspect attempted to rape her."

Police say the victim, 33, managed to fight him off, get into her apartment and lock the door.

The suspect fled; the victim was not injured. Police released surveillance video of the suspect:
