[SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE] Police are searching for a man who tried to rape a woman in Williamsburg on New Year's Day.
The incident took place around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, in an apartment building near South 2nd Street and Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg. According to the NYPD, the suspect approached a 26-year-old woman in the first floor landing and "proceeded to punch her in the back of her head, got on top of her, and attempted to pull down her undergarments."
The woman resisted, and the suspect fled down South 2nd Street towards Marcy Avenue, according to the police. The authorities also released images and video of the suspect, who is described as being in his mid 20s and 5'8" with facial hair.

UPDATE 4:17 p.m.: The NYPD has made an arrest in the case, according to a statement sent out by the department this afternoon. Police have arrested Manuel Almonte, 30, whose address on South 3rd street is near the victim's building. Almonte was arrested today at 3:15 and charged with Attempted Rape, Burglary, Sex Abuse, Forcible Touching, Assault, and Harassment.
