The police have released surveillance video of a person who they say robbed and then tried to rape an 81-year-old woman in her building.
According to the NYPD, it happened yesterday at 12:50 p.m., when the elderly woman was walking into her building on Beekman Street. The police say the suspect followed her into the elevator, "then followed the victim off the elevator, grabbed her and forced her into the stairwell where he grabbed her pocketbook and removed an undetermined amount of money. The suspect then sexually assaulted her attempted to rape her."
The suspect fled and the victim refused medical attention. Here's the video.
Police describe the suspect specifically as a "20-year-old black male, 5'6" tall weighing 150 pounds."
