After revealing that two women were nearly raped in Brooklyn early Thursday morning, police now believe the incidents a mile apart were committed by the same suspect.

The first occurred around 2 a.m. on July 13th, inside a Crown Heights building near Albany Avenue and Sterling Place. Police say that the suspect "followed the 22 year-old female victim to the front of her apartment and pushed her inside when she opened the door. The individual placed his hand over the victim's mouth and dragged her down to the floor. He touched her genitals as he told her he had a knife and would kill her if she didn't keep quiet."

The victim was able to fight back, kneeing the suspect in the groin, police say. The suspect then allegedly fled.

Then, around 3:36 a.m., inside another Crown Heights building near Pacific Street and Nostrand Avenue, a 32-year-old woman told police that she was followed into the elevator by a male individual, and, according to the NYPD, "When the elevator stopped on the victim's floor and she stepped off, the individual placed his hand over her mouth and attempted to pull her down to the floor. The victim screamed and punched and kicked at the individual."

At that point, the suspect released her and fled, police say.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s and is 6'0" to 6'2", with a goatee. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with white lettering, light blue jeans, a black baseball cap and white sneakers. Authorities released images and surveillance video of the suspect:

A resident told NY1, "It's really scary because I think that I have always felt very safe in this neighborhood, and as a New Yorker, especially in an area that's active and that's lit, I always feel very, perhaps too safe or invincible. So knowing that it happened right here is really scary."
