A 12-year-old girl was raped by a man who grabbed her off a Bronx street earlier this week, police say. Investigators have now released surveillance images and video of the suspect, in hopes the public can help them locate him.

According to the NYPD, the incident happened at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, when the girl was walking near East Tremont Avenue and Southern Boulevard: "[T]he suspect walked up to her, grabbed her arm and said that he would kill her if she screamed. The victim complied and the suspect forced her first to 901 East 179 Street and attempted to enter the building. With the door locked, the suspect then forced the victim to 915 East 179 Street. There, he was also unsuccessful. He then forced the victim to an alley on the side of 2064 Daly Avenue where he raped her." Video shows the suspect apparently leading the victim around a building:

Police say the victim fled, with the suspect running in the opposite direction. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male in his early to mid-teens, 5'2" tall.

A Tremont resident told WCBS 2 that the crime was "Extremely horrific and I hope they get the kid. Hopefully he goes down for this crime because no female should ever be victimized or violated like that."
