Police have found what they believe to be human remains on Canarsie Pol, an island off Canarsie Pier in Jamaica Bay. Two NYPD spokesmen confirmed that the remains were reported to police yesterday, but because of poor visibility, the harbor units were unable to retrieve them until today. The Medical Examiner's office is currently conducting tests to determine cause of death.
Canarsie Pol is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area serviced in part by the U.S. Parks Department. On a related note, the NYPD's press office said that they had no information on the human remains reported by Geoffrey Croft to have been found at Plumb Beach yesterday.
