We know this week has suddenly turned chilly, but is it already time for the sweet scent of maple syrup to fill the air? There have been numerous reports of the syrupy aroma wafting in the air this morning.

The maple syrup smell has been a visitor in October 2005, March 2006, November 2006, November 2007, May 2008, January 2009 and February 2012. In 2009, Mayor Bloomberg and the Office of Emergency Management declared the 2005-2009 incidents the work of a NJ factory, Frutarom, and even put together a smell map! However, Frutarom says that they weren't operating the day of the February 2012 incident, so it's probably northrax.

If you breathed in the sweet scent today, tell us where and we'll create a new map! The smell is apparently over Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and NJ. We've put in a call to Frutarom this morning and are waiting to hear back. In the meantime, order some pancakes!
