Did you know that there were Republicans in Manhattan? It turns out there are, but not many, and a lot of them live in (surprise) Trump Tower! According to a rundown of electoral votes in Manhattan precincts, newly-minted Obama fan Donald Trump's building was a shining beacon of Right Wing-ery, being only one of two districts in the borough that gave Romney-Ryan at least 50 percent of the vote.
Romney, who only got about 18.3 percent of the vote citywide, also scored a Midtown East precinct near the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, where, erm, four of the six people who voted marked his name on the ballot. Outside of Manhattan, though, there was a definite smattering of red scattered throughout the blue. Orthodox Jews in Gravesend, Borough Park and Sheepshead Bay tended to vote for Romney, voicing concern that Obama was not a strong enough supporter of Israel. Romney held down Kew Gardens Hills and Howard Beach in Queens, Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn and Belle Harbor in the Rockaways, though Obama (barely) bested him in typically conservative Staten Island.
Otherwise, the majority of those who braved the city's hour-plus-long lines decided to re-elect POTUS, with 91 of the city's 5,286 precincts giving Obama a hundred percent of the vote. But, then again, most of us are just hoping a Jets victory is included in that "extraordinary bag of gifts."
