2008_09_hijackers.jpgToday's NY Times reveals that the remains of 13 of the 19 men responsible for the 9/11 attacks wait in a state of limbo as they're stored in unknown locations under the watch of the F.B.I. and the New York City medical examiner’s office. Neither has a policy on how to deal with a request to bury them, leaving the potential for a sticky situation if one was made. The only such request that has come in was from an alleged uncle of one of the hijackers on Flight 93, but apparently it was made at the prompting of an overseas journalist trying to test out the system and was never followed up on. Families of 9/11 victims are watching the situation closely with one father of a World Trade Center victim telling the Times, “It would be sadly ironic if they ended up being properly buried or sent to a Muslim country when many of the remains of the victims remain buried in a garbage dump.”
