Just after midnight, a NJ Transit bus driver headed to Newark Penn Station crashed into a cabbie, sending the two vehicles careening into a Newark building. Ten people were taken to the hospital, including the bus driver, who reportedly has a life-threatening head injury.
The crash occurred at 12:40 a.m. at Washington and Market streets. The impact sent the bus and cab 90 feet across a median into the building. According to WABC 7, "The impact caused severe structural damage, and it is possible the bus is the only thing keeping the building from collapsing. Engineers were determining if the bus was supporting the entire structure."
The investigation is ongoing; we'll update as more information becomes available.
