Police say that a NJ resident was killed when his car drove off a cliff early this morning in Edgewater, NJ. According to NBC New York, the incident happened before 3 a.m..—"police received several calls reporting that a car had driven off Gorge Road in Edgewater and gone over a cliff. Nearby residents reported hearing a loud thud when the car landed below."

Apparently the SUV had gone through a fence before landing near the Aventine Condominiums (see this picture of the cliff behind the condos). Edgewater Police Captain William Skidmore told 1010 WINS, “A vehicle did leave the roadway, and it dropped approximately 100 feet to the ground. It landed on the patio but it did not hit the building. It did not hit the structure.”

The incident is being investigated. The driver was the only occupant of the SUV and no one in the condos was injured.
