An Olympic judo fighter from New Jersey became the first athlete out of the 10,500 competitors at the London games to be expelled for failing an in-competition drug test. 23-year-old Nick Delpopolo of Westfield, New Jersey tested positive for "metabolites of cannabis" on July 30, the day he placed seventh in his competition, according to the AP. Delpopolo said the positive test was "caused by my inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana." As everyone knows, cannabis consumption is linked to talking dogs, diner food, and gold medals.

Delpopolo's seventh place finish will likely be voided by the IOC. "I apologize to U.S. Olympic Committee, to my teammates, and to my fans, and I am embarrassed by this mistake," Delpopolo said of the action that he and at least 50% of other Americans are fine with.
