The FAA is currently probing over a dozen claims made by pilots that lasers were being pointed at planes landing at Newark Liberty Airport. All the reports came from planes landing from the north, where pilots said there were green laser lights in their cockpits as they were on final approach.
According to the FAA, there have been around 2,200 reports of "laser incidents" so far this year. It is a violation of federal law to shine a laser at an aircraft, and FAA spokesman Jim Peters told the Wall Street Journal, "Pilots are more diligent in reporting these incidents and it seems more people are engaging in this dangerous and irresponsible behavior." Remember, pilots are not your annoying Economics professors. Cut it out.
