You've enjoyed her dulcet tones telling you about everything from the Brooklyn Bridge-bound 6 train to staying away from the platform edge, but did you know the lady who does the subway's public-address announcements isn't even a New Yorker? How is she supposed to understand our daily plight if the last time she rode the subway was in 1957?! Carolyn Hopkins of Maine says she occasionally comes to the city to go on cruise ships, but takes cabs when she's here. Hopkins has also done the voice of systems in Paris, Beirut and Chicago. We're all for bringing in a local announcer; hire the G train conductor!
