The winner of today's crazy horrible tabloid story has to be this account of a murder-suicide in Flushing, Queens, courtesy of the Daily News. Claudia Montoya, the 31-year-old mother of a 1-year-old baby girl, was brutally stabbed to death in her home yesterday by her long-suffering jealous admirer, who then committed suicide by lying down on the 7 train tracks at the Hunters Point station. Montoya was found around 7:50 a.m. after neighbors became alarmed by a powerful odor of gas emanating from the apartment, which she shared with her boyfriend, the baby's father. Her two Yorkshire terriers were also found dead inside, presumably from the gas.
The murderer, Wilmer Castano, 27, "was in love with Claudia, but she told him it was just a friendship," Montoya's sister Stephanie Galeano tells the News. "He must have been very angry. He stabbed her 17 times." After murdering Montoya, Castano stole her Mercedes SUV and tried to kill himself by driving into Flushing Bay. But when that didn't work, he opted for suicide by subway. Fortunately, Montoya's daughter Sophia was not in the apartment at the time. Today happens to be her first birthday, and Montoya's sister says they were planning on having a pool party to celebrate. Sad enough for you?
